Fayde reveals his gear list!

Greetings fellow Gryphon's Egg readers. You have been waiting for this article and here it is. DJ Fayde of Dark August has decided to sit down with us and give us the rundown on all of his gear, well at least the live gear. So, break out your notepads or bookmark the page, cause here we go.

Lets see, where do I start. Well, for the most part I center the whole rig around Ableton Live. I am using a real and lega; version of 5 right now. I switched from 4 to the beta because it uses MP3's where as 4 did not. MP3's are very important if you plan on live mixing MP's for DJ purposes or if you just want to pull samples from the mp3's on your machine . Then I went out and bought 5 because I support the industry and Its just great knowing you are legal!! If you want to know my reasons (no pun intended) for choosing live , then click here.

I recently bought a Evolution UC33e controller for Live just for the simple purposes of making the tactile jump. It is so much easier to be creative and artistic and feel the music when you arent limited to one at a time controls with that evil little mouse thing. ( hehe)

Next I have an sp-808 which I used alot until I got Ableton. I still use it but mainly to trigger samples like fills and some spoken samples. Its also a great effects unit.

On to the boards. I am using a Korg N-364 and a Roland XP-60. I have only personal reasons for using these boards. I like the sounds on the boards and they are just friendlya and easy to use workstations.

I am running everything through a Carvin mixer and 2 Carvin 2x 18's . Thats mainly it. I have a library of around 20 gigs of samples on a fire wire hard drive. I use many software plugins including, Kontakt, vokator, pro 53, the arp suite, orange vocoder, etc etc etc....

I recently purchased an Mc-909. Man that thing is the shit!! I love that box. It integrated easily with my computer and the rest of my hardware thru the midi interface. Awesome. Lastly I also picked up an M-audio radium 49, great midi controller keyboard. Really completed my rig.
